sunshine in a bottle!

Bring the sun into your home with our authentic hot pepper sauce from Trinidad

Trinidadian traditions

in trinidad, hot pepper sauce is much more than just a sauce to spice up your meal. it is rooted deep into our food culture and considered an unofficial currency between families.

A jar of homemade pepper sauce with a little white plastic spoon is the centerpiece of almost every ‘Trini’ dining table. We wanted to bring this piece of home to New Zealand, that’s why we started Fire Down Below! Made with a range of peppers grown right here in Aotearoa, it surely can give you a ‘fire down below’, but our name is also a play on where we live (down below down under!)

We like to put our pepper sauce on any kind of dish - ‘Trini style’ - but in order to suit the market in NZ, we offer a variety of sauces, all with their own character. In increasing order of heat levels they are Classic, Ring of Fire and Inferno. More detailed descriptions are on the individual product pages

They’re very different, yet equally delicious. Why not try all?

“back home, hot pepper sauce is part of every meal. so, when we came to NZ, I continued making our sauce, as I’ve always been. sadly, The art of pepper sauce making is dwindling as many commercial products find their way onto the grocery shelves. When I make it, I get to make it my way. the way my mom taught me. this is how we proudly preserve tradition and our Caribbean food culture”
